Bad dental habits can cause long term problems and are truly something that people should work at overcoming.  While there are a number of these habits, some of them are more common than others, and some of them are more damaging than others.  One of the worst culprits on the bad dental habits list is chewing ice.  Plenty of people finish off their drinks and look forward to the crunchy icy goodness.  However, they should stop and think before they do this.  Although most of these tendencies are done rather unconsciously, it is important for people to take the time to become aware of what they are doing so they can help prevent damage to their teeth.  Ice chewing can lead to gums that are injured, teeth that are broken, or sometimes even a tooth in need of a crown.  People should think this through very carefully to evaluate the risks of these issues as compared to the perceived benefits of the ice crunching.


Another one of the bad dental habits is using teeth in the place of scissors for opening packaging or biting off a tag.  People should take the time to locate a pair of scissors to use the tool how it is designed instead of using the teeth in their place.  This can cause problems that might lead to tooth fractures.  Opting for toothpicks over floss is yet another really bad idea.  There are a number of things that can go wrong with this including breaking off part of the toothpick in the teeth.  Chewing on pens, pencils, or other foreign objects are still more examples of bad dental habits that need to be changed.
