Christophe-Francois Delabarre introduced the wire crib in 1819, which marked the birth of what is known in orthodontics as headgear. Before the 1830’s all dental work had been done by doctors and even barbers. Remember when you were told as a child that tying your tooth to a string that was attached to a door knob would help remove that loose tooth?
Thankfully, there are now dentists and less barbaric ways of straightening teeth!
